A spark is a catalyst for transformation—a moment of insight, a shift in perspective, a jolt of inspiration.
Together, they reflect our purpose: to create the conditions where people and systems can thrive and to ignite what’s possible.
Flourishing Spark helps people and organizations connect to purpose, find clarity, and move ideas into action—creating meaningful change and supporting human well-being.
Hi, I’m Kimberly Smathers.
Across two decades in health, human services, and education, I’ve worked to bridge worlds—connecting data with stories, policy with practice, and people with differing perspectives. I’ve led strategy, learning, and systems innovation efforts at national and community levels: guiding initiatives for philanthropies, state and federal programs, and nonprofits; building partnerships that expand access to opportunities and services; and creating learning hubs that translate evidence and observations into practice.
These experiences strengthened my conviction that if we slow down long enough to think deeply, listen to people who don’t always get heard, and drop the act of having it all figured out, we can see things—and each other—more clearly. That’s where the real work and the real growth start.
This is why I founded Flourishing Spark—to partner with purpose-driven individuals and organizations in pursuing meaningful change through open-minded inquiry, authentic expression, and creative ideation.
I hold an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, am a Gallup® Certified Strengths Coach, and serve as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Attachment & Trauma Network.
At national convenings such as the Milken Institute Future of Health Summit, American Society on Aging, National Parent-Teacher Association Legislative Conference, and The Learning Community for Person-Centered Practices, I have shared insights on human-centered strategy and design, policy innovation, and systems change. I also co-created the on-demand course Neurodiversity in the Workplace, which explores inclusive, strengths-based organizational design and practical approaches to fostering belonging at work.
Outside of work, you’ll find me hiking a forest trail, at a concert or comedy show, doing yoga, or deep in a creative project with my kiddo (under the watchful gaze of my two mischievous black cats).
